Story-based intervention can be a helpful method for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or related developmental delays. Using this method, the ABA therapist will create a story to illustrate positive skills and behaviors, such as transitioning between activities at school or taking turns. When appropriate, Chicago ABA Therapy incorporates elements of story-based intervention in treatment plans.
Story-based intervention will describe these situations so that children feel prepared to encounter these situations. A story will also set an expectation for behavior in these situations. Story-based intervention can be particularly beneficial for social settings, which are often challenging for children with autism.
